Want to know more about skin needling? Learn the ins and outs of the popular treatment below.
Let’s start at the beginning of skin needling. Skin needling was derived from ancient acupuncture techniques which were combined with modern mesotherapy practice. It was created and developed in the late 1990s by a team of European and South African plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and engineers. It was already known that the needles used in acupuncture assisted in alleviating pain. Later on, it was scientifically proven that the insertion of needles into the skin resulted in increased collagen production and stimulated an effective wound healing response.

Skin needling is a non-invasive procedure that incorporates a pen with microscopic needles between 0.25mm to 2mm long depending on which needles are used. As the needles are applied over the skin, tiny punctures are created within the epidermis and dermis that encourage the skin’s own natural response.
The most important question on everyone’s lips……. when will my skin begin to glow?
Your skin will feel tight and you can expect redness for up to 2 days prior treatment. Mild peeling will appear around day 3 and you will notice the best skin results one-week mild sunburn. This will subside within 24-48 hours. I always notice the best skin results one-week post treatment, with results continuing to improve week after week.
Does it hurt?
Let’s be real. There is slight discomfort that is likened to pain level of 2/10. Numbing cream is an option for those who wish to reduce the level of discomfort. No pain no gain, right?
